With all the mandates that seem to be enforced all over the country, it would seem that almost all governments are implementing some type of mask mandate. When this mandate was first announced it troubled me very deeply and I had to ponder this idea with the Word of God. It was through much prayer and reading of God’s Word that I realized this goes against God’s word. One would assume that Christians would be the first to oppose this, however, just like the lockdowns it was not resisted because the government and media were very effective at promoting fear. However, I cannot blame them completely as most of the ‘so-called’ churches here in Canada could care less about the bible or the Word of God and rarely adhere to its teachings or principles. For example in Hebrews 10:25, KJV: ‘Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching’. When the pandemic was first announced in March of 2020 it was not long after that all the churches agreed to shut their doors and said to the world Jesus is not essential. The pastors had a huge opportunity here but instead most choose to act like cowards and close their doors. ‘For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and love, and sound mind’, 1 Timothy 1:7. You can use whatever excuse you want to make them sound better but the Word of God does not give you an exemption when there is a pandemic. Government edicts do not supersede God’s Word! The very church that is suppose to be preaching eternal life through our Lord and Savior Jesus, hid in fear at the thought of a virus that may cause them harm, or worse might kill them. The light of the world that we are commanded to be went dark. What would have happened if they acted with courage and were a light to the world? What an opportunity for the church that was completely missed. They could have been our example and we could have prayed together for God to help us and heal our land. They could have stood up and declared Jesus is essential and said we need Him now more than ever. Sorry, no can do! Most of them locked themselves up and went right along with the government’s agenda and did nothing worthy of the name they represent.
Now some of the churches have opened back up, if you want to call it that. Most are wearing the mask and following other mandates. Which looks more reminiscent of a clown circus than the fearless body of the Lord Jesus? Some have gone as far to claim Jesus would wear a mask. Would Jesus wear a mask if He was here today?’ Let me answer that…NO! He is God and anyone who thinks that he would is so reprobate they do not have a clue. When everyone was running from the lepers in society Jesus was hanging out with them and healing them. Jesus holds the power over life and death and you think He needs to wear a mask? This is the same Jesus who rose from the dead and walked on water. What is wrong with you? Have you been so compromised by government handouts that the Word of God is of no value to you? Are you so gullible and foolish?
So why should Christians refuse to wear a mask? For the sake of this article, I am not going to go into the debate of the mask. To be honest, it does not matter, the Word of God is clear.
We must understand that we are created in the image of God, Genesis 1:27 ‘So God created man in his image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them’. Your face is your most expressive part of your body; it is how we communicate verbally and non-verbal. Many have explained that we are made in the image of God to mean we can think and reason for ourselves and that is a big part of it, however without your face, you would have no way of communicating or expressing what makes us who we are. You would only have a consciousness with no ability to express or communicate with others, so your face as a Christian is the light of the world, you are God’s candle. We could go very deep into this however I want you to consider why they want your face covered so badly. Your face represents the light of God’s image in us; could it be that Satan does not want to see it anymore? It also makes it harder for us to communicate with a mask on and I often find it difficult to hear or understand people. In reality, I talk less to people wearing them as it makes me less social than I normally am because it makes it more difficult to understand them. Thus it also hinders us from sharing the good news of the gospel.
‘Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven’, Matthew 5: 14-16
Who is the light of the World? Ye are the light of the world…Christians. Should we hide our face like the rest of the world? No, we are the light of the world. We need to show our light and shine it before men so they can see Jesus in us. They cannot see that hiding behind a mask all they see is fear, wake up church! If all the world sees is a scared weak church why would anyone want to become a Christian? We are only offering them what they already have. The church is to be the light to the world and we are the church, we are his body. ‘And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church, Which is his body, the fullness of him that filleth all in all’. Ephesians 1:23
‘And the Lord God Formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and became a living soul.’ Genesis 2:7. ‘By the word of the Lord were the heavens made; and all the host of them by breath of his mouth.’ Psalm 33:6. The mask also covers over our nose and mouth where the breath of life is located. It effects our breathing also.
In Canada, under the human rights act, Charter of Rights and Freedoms, NO ONE is allowed to discriminate against anyone for religious beliefs, nor infringe upon them. If you are a Christian and are required to wear a mask for work or to buy or sell, regardless of the reason your religious rights are being infringed upon. Even if the church you go to requires you to wear one because they are not following the word of God. There was no social distancing in the early church and they had more viruses, pestilence, plagues, body odour and dirt beyond what most can comprehend today.
I rebuke those pastors and church leaders here in Canada who shut down their churches and are now forcing their congregations to mask up and social distance. You need to repent of your sins and take your hands out of the governments’ purse and start trusting in God. Do not tell me you cannot make it on your own and you need the government handouts. That is because you are preaching a false watered-down gospel that trusts in a useless piece of cloth to protect you from a virus. You told the world Jesus was not essential by your actions and you have denied the faith. The worst part is you denied Jesus before men by these actions. ‘Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven. But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which in heaven.’ Matthew 10: 32-33. You are nothing more than modern-day Pharisees.
This post is not meant to be an exhaustive list of verses or reasons why Christians should not wear a face mask or face covering of any kind. For example, we are the temple of the living God so there are many issues there alone that conflict and would infringe on religious liberties. The Church is to pray for the sick and lay hands on them for healing, how can this be done with a mask on or social distancing? Very hypocritical to say the least. How can we pray for someone’s healing while we have a face mask on, think about that for a moment? We are not to be overcome by fear or live in fear how can you wear a face mask and say you’re not living in fear? Even if your just wearing it to appease others you’re still giving into to their fear. The Church is to be fearless, and we are to be examples to the rest of the world. How can we fulfill and carry out the orders of Jesus to preach the gospel in all nations? How can we preach the gospel to anyone while wearing a face mask while telling them about the good news of the gospel, it is sending a mixed message.
