“The greatest concern is that his biggest liability is the one thing he can’t change. Among all the unpredictables there is one thing that is sure: the age arrow only points in one direction,” he says.
Former Obama adviser David Axelrod sounded the alarm over the weekend strongly suggesting that Joe Biden should bow out of the 2024 race, citing a recent poll showing Trump leading in five battleground states.
Axelrod reacted to a New York Times poll showing Trump would defeat Biden in a hypothetical 2024 matchup with over 300 electoral college votes, calling it a “legitimate concern.”
“It’s very late to change horses; a lot will happen in the next year that no one can predict & Biden’s team says his resolve to run is firm. He’s defied CW before but this will send tremors of doubt thru the party–not ‘bed-wetting,’ but legitimate concern,” Axelrod wrote on X Sunday.

Axelrod said Biden’s biggest liability is his age, the “one thing he can’t change” ahead of the 2024 election.
“The greatest concern is that his biggest liability is the one thing he can’t change. Among all the unpredictables there is one thing that is sure: the age arrow only points in one direction,” he noted.

After lambasting Trump as a “dangerous, unhinged demagogue,” Axelrod warned that Biden remaining in the race could be a grave “miscalculation.”
“The @POTUS is justly proud of his accomplishments. Trump is a dangerous, unhinged demagogue whose brazen disdain for the rules, norms, laws and institutions or democracy should be disqualifying. But the stakes of miscalculation here are too dramatic to ignore,” Axelrod claimed.
Only @JoeBiden can make this decision. If he continues to run, he will be the nominee of the Democratic Party. What he needs to decide is whether that is wise; whether it’s in HIS best interest or the country’s?

In other words, Axelrod’s message to Biden is, “if you care about the country, drop out.”
The New York Times poll showed Trump leading Biden in five of six swing states — Nevada, Georgia, Arizona, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin —all of which Biden “won” in 2020.
The vast majority of the electorate, 71%, said 80-year-old Biden is too old, including 54% of Democrats.
62% also said Biden lacks the “mental sharpness” to be an effective president.
And even more alarming for Democrats, the poll also found Biden’s approval tanking among minorities.

Axelrod’s warning is a major signal from the Democratic establishment that it’s ready to throw Biden under the bus and rally behind a different candidate to face Trump in 2024.
