Turmoil in Spain amid socialist takeover

Spain is governed by the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party (Partido Socialista Obrero Español, or PSOE), which dominates all its government branches.

In a brazen power grab, Pedro Sánchez, the interim Spanish Prime Minister and leader of the PSOE, initiated negotiations with the Catalan separatist party. This move aims to secure the support necessary for maintaining socialist control over Spain. Sánchez’s socialist party requires the backing of the Catalan separatists and other left-wing parties to sustain their power.

An agreement was reached on November 9, 2023.

The recent surge in protests across Spain directly stems from the actions of the socialist government during these negotiations, dramatically escalated by the failed assassination attempt on Alejo Vidal-Quadras, a co-founder of the populist right-wing party Vox. Vox has since called for a “permanent mobilization” of the Spanish people against Spain’s corrupt socialist government, leading to widespread demonstrations.

The video below shows Spanish police firing into a crowd of demonstrators.

What’s happening in Spain? Rampant governmental corruption and it’s happening very openly.

At the heart of public outrage are the demands made by Catalan separatists and other leftist parties as conditions for supporting the PSOE government. These demands, explicitly illegal, include amnesty for those implicated in Catalonia’s failed secession attempt and the erasure of debts, both flagrant violations of the Spanish constitution.

Corruption: Some 1,432 people, many from the political class, would benefit from this “amnesty agreement.” Most notably, some of these individuals are under investigation or have been convicted of crimes unrelated to the illegal secession attempt, and they would also be extended amnesty. For example, the former president of the Catalan Parliament, Laura Borràs, who was convicted of illegally awarding government contracts to a friend, and Gonzalo Boye, who is under investigation for allegedly laundering drug money, would be extended amnesty as well.

The most glaring travesty is that Carles Puigdemont, leader of the Together for Catalonia party (Junts per Catalunya), emerges as a major beneficiary of this amnesty agreement. He was directly involved in the negotiations with Sánchez’s PSOE and faces charges of disobedience and embezzlement. Spain’s courts are actively seeking to extradite Puigdemont from Belgium, where he fled in 2017 to evade arrest after the failed secession attempt in Catalonia.

Puigdemont is a literal enemy of the Spanish state.

Debt Cancellation: Among the many promises made by Pedro Sánchez to secure support for the continued corrupt socialist governance of Spain is the cancellation of 20% of Catalonia’s debt to the Spanish state, totaling €15 billion.

This move sparked outrage among the other administrative regions of the Spanish nation. In response, the PSOE quickly extended a similar offer of debt relief to these regions to “buy” their political support.

In essence, Sánchez and the socialists are overtly buying control of the Spanish state through promises of debt liquidation and guarantees of amnesty from criminal prosecution.
