Child forcibly kissed on mouth by 35-year-old Afghan man, witnesses say
A male migrant from Afghanistan was arrested for an alleged sex attack on a 7-year-old girl near the Eiffel Tower in France over the weekend, according to reports.
The disturbing incident unfolded during the overnight hours between Saturday and Sunday in Paris.
Just before 1 a.m., police received a call from a man who said his daughter had been sexually assaulted in Les Jardins du Trocadéro, a large park that lies near the Eiffel Tower.
“He reported that a stranger, in a drunken state, had just used force to kiss his child on the mouth,” a law enforcement source told Le Parisien.
Responding officers found the father holding the suspect down when they arrived at the scene.
A witness provided a statement corroborating the father’s claim.
The suspect was taken into custody and identified as a 35-year-old Afghan national, although his immigration status is unclear.
The family was expected to file a formal complaint for sexual assault of a victim under the age of 15 an ongoing investigation.
Multiple sex attacks have taken place in the shadow of the Eiffel Tower in the past year.
In October, a 23-year-old policewoman from England was raped at knifepoint on the Champ-de-Mars.
In July, a young Mexican woman on holiday in France was gang-raped by five suspects on the Champ-de-Mars.
