CBS News cut 20 jobs as part of a mass layoff by parent company Paramount Global.

Journalist Catherine Herridge has been let go from CBS News as part of an 800-employee layoff on Tuesday.

Herridge had covered national security and intelligence stories as senior correspondent for CBS since 2019 after leaving Fox News.

Paramount Global handed out 800 pink slips Tuesday, which forced CBS News to cut 20 jobs.

One of the last stories Herridge reported on before her dismissal was a letter by House committee chairmen James Comer (R-Ky.), Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), and Jason Smith (R-Mo.) requesting Attorney General Merrick Garland provide a transcript of special counsel Robert Hur’s interview with Joe Biden as part of his classified documents case by Feb. 19.

The letter raised “concern” that Biden may have “retained sensitive documents related to specific countries involving his family’s foreign business dealings.”

This comes as Herridge is also embroiled in a First Amendment case for refusing to divulge her source on a story related to a federal probe into a Chinese-American scientist who led a graduate program in Virginia.

From the New York Post:

Herridge had allegedly clashed with CBS News president Ingrid Ciprian-Matthews, who was the subject of an HR probe in 2021 over discriminatory hiring and management practices.

Herridge may soon be held in contempt of court for not divulging her source for an investigative piece she penned in 2017 when she worked for Fox News and be ordered to personally pay fines that could total as much as $5,000 a day.

A source close to the situation said Fox News is paying for Herridge’s legal counsel.

Herridge’s departure comes as the journalist faces heat for not complying with US District Judge Christopher Cooper’s order to reveal how she learned about a federal probe into a Chinese American scientist who operated a graduate program in Virginia.

Herridge raised eyebrows in December when she warned that a “black swan event” could alter the national security landscape of the United States in 2024.

.@CBS_Herridge predicts in 2024, the U.S. may have “a national security event with high impact that’s very hard to predict,” pointing to ongoing wars and U.S. division as factors creating “fertile ground for our adversaries like North Korea, China and Iran” to take advantage of. pic.twitter.com/Vx8MTnn1W8
