Trump was greeted with a standing ovation
Donald Trump received a rapturous welcome at UFC 302, in Newark, New Jersey on Saturday night. The event was headlined by a fight between Islam Makhachev and Dustin Poirier.
As Trump entered the arena floor at the Prudential Center to the sound of Kid Rock’s “American Badass,” he was flanked by UFC CEO and friend Dana White. Many fans were on their feet, and some were seen wielding Trump banners.
Trump shook hands as he made his way to ringside.
“Boy, the round of applause he’s getting right now is pretty staggering. And you had to imagine that’s what was going to happen,” said UFC commentator Joe Rogan, before shaking hands with the former president.
Chants of “F*ck Joe Biden!” erupted periodically during the event, and after defeating Paulo Costa, former UFC champion Sean Strickland gave Trump a shout-out in his post-fight speech.
“President Trump, you’re the man. It’s a damn travesty what they’re doing to you. I’ll be donating to you, my man. Let’s get it done!”
