Group of Venezuelan migrants reportedly hit while walking on Pan-American Highway towards El Paso, TX
A group of migrants traveling on foot were struck by a vehicle after a driver lost control while swerving to avoid other pedestrians on a highway in Mexico, killing two and seriously injuring at least two others, according to reports.
The horrifying incident unfolded just after 9 a.m. on Friday morning in the Mexican state of Chihuahua.
Groups of migrants were reportedly walking northbound along the Pan-American Highway between the cities of Chihuahua and Juarez when the driver of a sedan attempting to avoid people in the road careened off the pavement and rolled over.
At least four people were reportedly injured in the wreck.
Videos purportedly shot in the aftermath of the crash have been circulating on social media.
Initial reports indicate two adults were killed, and at least two more pedestrians were injured, including a child, although it is unclear if any were riding in the vehicle.
“Ambulance drivers unofficially reported that there were two who were left dead and they were Venezuelan migrants who got tired of waiting for permission to travel on the Ferromex trains and decided to continue on their way to the border city on foot, but they were surprised by the car,” La Jornada San Luis reports.
Chihuahua authorities shared footage of a minor being airlifted to a local hospital to be treated for head trauma and facial injuries.
An investigation is ongoing.
