Multiple victims injured after suspect armed with BB gun kidnaps driver of public bus
Multiple people were hospitalized following a bus hijacking in California that ended when the vehicle crashed into a luxury hotel this week, according to reports.
The harrowing incident unfolded just after 11 p.m. in downtown Los Angeles.
A man boarded a Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority bus and “approached the Metro bus operator, made verbal threats, reached into his waistband as if he had a gun and stated, ‘Just Drive!’” the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) explained in a press release.
While the transport was moving, the suspect grabbed the steering wheel, causing it to collide with multiple vehicles before proceeding onward.
Footage captured by multiple surveillance cameras has been circulating on social media.
The bus eventually slammed into a wall outside the Ritz-Carlton hotel on West Olympic Boulevard and came to a stop.
The suspect fled on foot but was later apprehended.
Officers recovered a handgun that turned out to be a BB pistol at the scene of the crash.
The bus driver and an occupant of a vehicle involved in one of the collisions were both hospitalized in stable condition.
Anai Lindsey, a resident of Nevada, was charged with kidnapping and is being held on $100,000 bond.
